Want to see something COOL? Check out this newly hatched monarch butterfly caterpillar our staff was lucky enough to capture a video of with our microscope! 🐛 This little fella hatched no more than 20 minutes before we captured this spectacular footage. It is a minuscule 2mm in length and enjoying its first meal which is the egg it just hatched from. 🥚 After it molts for the first time, it will begin to develop the signature stripes of a monarch caterpillar.

Check out this beautiful skink spotted over by the Farm Loop trail in the Grange! 🦎 This skink belongs to the genus Plestiodon. We have a handful of plestiodon species in our area that can be incredibly difficult to distinguish from each other. The one pictured is likely Plestiodon laticeps (commonly known as a broad-headed skink) based on the number of “pre-orbital supralabials” it has (a.k.a. the scales near its mouth). This skink has 5 of these supralabials while other species of Plestiodon are more likely to have 4! #themoreyouknow🌈
