We saved up paper towel and toilet paper rolls for a few months and made the cutest paper bird mobiles with an awesome group of kiddos! Sarah did a great job leading the craft and had beautiful photos of birds native to Virginia to inspire the artists.

This is part of our series of programs on days when LCPS is closed. Check out our events page linked in our bio for the upcoming programs on the Oct 30-Nov 5 break (all open to the public). We have native grass seed collecting (great for high schoolers looking for volunteer hours), a pinecone bird feeder craft, and an opp to meet our chickens on the Farm. DM us if you have other ideas for ways to help kids connect to nature and the farm or if you have an edu or crafting background and want to help us design more programs like this.

Vegetable of the Week: Spinach! Known for being highly nutritious, this leafy green is packed with Vitamins A and C, manganese, folate and super high amounts of Vitamin K. The spinach at grown at Willowsford Farm has a reputation for high quality and great flavor, especially after the first frost. Low overnight temps help add sweetness to the leaf and it makes a great base for a hearty winter salad. Interested in giving our Spinach a shot? You can stop by the Farm Stand on Thursdays and Saturdays, come to the Mini Farm Stand at the Boat House on Thursdays or place on order through our Online Farm Store by visiting the link in our bio!

FARM STAND + FARM TOURS TODAY Saturday 21st. Tractor rides take off at 10am, 11am, 12pm. Store open 'til 1pm. Flowers, ARUGULA, radishes, fennel, peaches, okra, new Pumpkin dog biscuits from The Barkery (official sign of fall), watermelons, the best eggplant, WSF merch and a lemonade stand raising funds for a great cause.

Have you been driving around lately and noticed a blazing field of yellow flowers? 🌼 It’s likely tickseed sunflower (Bidens aristosa). This late season beauty blooms late summer into early fall and puts on quite the show. It prefers moist areas with lots of sun like our Wet Meadow next to the Farm Stand (which is where these photos were taken).

That’s a wrap on the 2024 Community Bonfire & Camp Over! 🏕️ We had a blast spending this past weekend with you all. The foam party was a hit, the BBQ delicious, and fireside was cozy. We already can’t wait for next year!
