Welcoming Our Newest Farmer

Greetings from the Farm!

Last Friday, the Farm hosted its first Meet the Chickens event. We had 30 participants of all ages visit the Farm to learn about our animal husbandry practices and meet the flock of over 450 hens. The kids had a wonderful time collecting eggs and the most adventurous ones got to pick up a chicken. The group was eager to learn and asked many different questions covering everything from how much a chicken costs, what a chicken eats and how we move the chickens around the Farm as part of our rotational grazing practices. Afterwards, they learned how our eggs are washed and each family took a dozen eggs home to enjoy.

Welcome Farmer Daris!

Join us in welcoming our newest Farmer: Daris! Farmer Daris just finished her first week here at Willowsford, and we’re delighted to bring her onboard. Here’s what she had to say about her first week on the Farm Team:

“I am thrilled to be a new member of the Willowsford Conservancy and Farm Team! After taking a two year hiatus from farming it feels so good to be enjoying the outdoors and getting my hands dirty again. I’m really looking forward to meeting the Willowsford community, deepening my knowledge of organic sustainable farming, and learning from my fellow coworkers!”

Check out these amazing Willowsford kids! They were highlighted in the Dulles South Food Pantry newsletter for their efforts and for bringing Farm-fresh eggs to those in need. Many thanks to volunteer extraordinaire, Julie Nash, for sharing this great content with the Farm-ily. Did you know that if your CSA share isn’t picked up it gets donated to the pantry?! Yep! This partnership reduces waste + provides high quality food to food insecure members of our community.
