Living in Nature

One of the benefits of living or visiting Willowsford is the chance to see wildlife up close. We are home to hundreds of different species that call our open space home. We also attract migratory birds that visit Willowsford on their long journeys north or south. You might see a fox run across a field, a wild turkey foraging, or various reptiles scurrying through the grass. Our job is to live in harmony with them as we share this beautiful land with them. In addition to keeping a safe distance, it is also critical that we not feed any wildlife and keep trash closed up so as not to attract unwanted visitors to your house. Read more here.

What are some of the species that have been spotted at Willowsford – beavers, black bears, quail, flying squirrels, and many others! We recently have started sharing videos of the wildlife we are spotting using our wildlife trail cameras on social media!

There are many ways to connect with the wildlife here – we encourage you to observe the animals and birds in the Open Space near your homes, get out on the trails and look for signs of wildlife (footprints in the snow or mud are a great way to start learning how to ID). The Conservancy holds hikes and programs that introduce you to wildlife and we are happy to answer any questions you might have. We also offer opportunities to monitor the Eastern Bluebirds in case you want to join our popular volunteer program. And we have these tips if you come across injured or orphaned wildlife in your backyard and how you can help various creatures overwinter.
