Fall is here and that means many of our native grasses are going to seed and we need your help to collect it! As part of this activity, you’ll learn how to ID several different species of native grasses and how to properly collect and store their seeds. Seed collection is easy and can be a relaxing way to spend some time enjoying the outdoors. The seeds we collect as part of this event will be used for further grassland restoration throughout Willowsford.

Things to know:

  • This activity will take place in The Grant. We’ll be collecting seed in a small meadow on the corner of Silver Linden Pl. and Everfield Drive. We recommend parking along Silver Linden Pl.
  • Be sure to dress appropriately for the outdoors. We strongly suggest wearing close-toed shoes and long pants as we will be walking through some pretty tall and dense grass.
  • This event is recommended for ages 8+. Volunteers under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
  • We will be happy to sign off on volunteer hours for any students who join us for this volunteer session!
