Calling all Willowsford resident volunteers! We need your help removing garlic mustard, an invasive plant, from all around Willowsford and Willowsford trails.

Like many other invasive plants, garlic mustard inhibits the growth of native plant species in its environment, preventing the growth of biodiversity needed in any ecosystem. Help our team, and the environment, reduce this invasive species through a flexible and seasonal (April-June) volunteer opportunity. Simply hop on a trail with a trash bag in hand and start pulling garlic mustard from our trails! Once you've filled your bag, you can simply take it out with your other yard trimmings.

Last Friday, in celebration of Earth Day, the entire Willowsford Conservancy threw a giant picnic in appreciation of our planet!

Farm inspired meals from @willowsfordkitchen, nature based crafts led by the Farm and Land Stewardship teams, live music, and connecting with the community in the outdoors - we couldn't think of a better way to showcase this special day and what it means to Willowsford Conservancy.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us, we can’t wait for the next one!

On Saturday, we enjoyed planting 200 trees at Paddock Gate Place in the Grange Village. It was a windy morning, but we had an incredible turnout of volunteers to lend a helping hand. Thank you so much to everyone involved, and to the @arbordayfoundation and DataBank for their commitment to the natural world and their sponsorship! 🌱🌳

Willowsford Conservancy will be planting 200 native trees at Paddock Gate Place, with support from Databank and Arbor Day Foundation. Databank’s partnership with Willowsford Conservancy aims to raise the standards and expectations for data centers in Loudoun County. In addition to their various tree planting initiatives, Databank hopes to encourage other data centers to do the same and receive support and understanding from surrounding communities.

You might have seen him around Willowsford but we’d like to officially introduce Sam! Sam is our new Assistant Land Stewardship Manager. Sam attended West Virginia University and studied Forest Resource Management and Urban Forestry. Growing up in Northern Virginia, most of his weekends were spent fishing, golfing with his grandfather, and hiking landscapes with friends. Sam enjoys attending music shows, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, and rooting on his Green Bay Packers when he's not working. He’s excited to bring his positive attitude and passion for connecting people with the natural world to Willowsford!

On April 16th, our Land Stewardship team is doing a large native tree planting at Paddock Gate Pl. of over 200 trees. We need your help – we’re looking for volunteers to assist with this large tree planting.

The goal of this planting is to create a wildlife corridor for animals moving through Conservancy open space. Planting more trees will help relieve the wildlife and our community members of development pressure, while simultaneously creating a more beautiful space!

Sign up to volunteer through the link in our bio!

Last Friday, Taryn, our Land Stewardship Manager, led a Build-a-Birdbox workshop, teaching attendees about native birds that reside in the Willowsford community. They then got to build their own Bluebird boxes and take them home, inviting those native birds right to their own backyard! We loved seeing how the birdboxes turned out! 🐦#willowsfordconservancy

This past Saturday, one of our hunter volunteers came out and spent 10hrs cleaning around Allen Farm Pond. The pond had trash strewn everywhere due to all the new homes and was in need of a clean-up. TJ came out and spent the day cleaning the area all by himself and collected 40 cubic feet of trash, plus old fence posts and barbed wire! The photos show the pond before and after the cleaning.

The hunters in the Deer Management Program do considerable amounts of volunteer work for the Conservancy, working to improve and serve the Willowsford Community and surrounding environment. Thanks TJ!

Looking for opportunities to volunteer at Willowsford Farm? Here are two great ways:
1. Wednesday Produce Bagging
2. Thursday CSA Share Packing

Help the farm team pre-pack produce to be distributed through the CSA and Online Farm Store. Or, come in to help us get the CSA boxes ready for pickup or delivery. Both are great ways to get involved, mingle with other community members, and the farm team, while learning about the produce grown on our farm.

If you're interested, please let us know in the comments -- or send us a message and we'll get you registered. Thank you!
