We have several important opportunities to participate in the leadership of the Conservancy:

  • Board of Trustees: The governing body of the Conservancy, the Trustees can be up to seven members. Being a Trustee is a significant time commitment, requiring several hours per month and physical attendance at meetings throughout the year. There are four in-person meetings, two meetings with the HOA board, and several additional discussions (all meetings are typically held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm). While not required, the areas of knowledge most needed are legal, land use, fundraising, education, or financial backgrounds. Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board is also helpful.
  • CapEx Resident Committee: Recommended during the recent budget process, the Conservancy Board is determining the scope and deliverables of such a committee. Information on the expectations and how to apply will be shared in January.
  • Advisory Board: Formed in 2024 as part of our strategic plan, the Advisory Board allows the Conservancy to form committees of any size for specialized projects. The time commitment is far lower than the Board of Trustees, at just an hour or so per week. Several committees are forming now:
    • Land Use: We’re seeking individuals with strong knowledge of land use regulations and policy in Loudoun County to advise staff and Trustees on nearby new developments (residential, parks, trails, data centers), easements, opportunities, etc.
    • Fundraising: We’re seeking individuals with experience in non-profit fundraising, including donor outreach and management, grant and proposal writing, etc. It’s helpful but not essential if this experience is tied to conservation and/or agriculture.
    • General interest: We are also seeking individuals with general knowledge which could be helpful to us as we implement our strategic plan, such as architectural design, education, farming, land stewardship, measuring impact, etc.

Residents and non-residents can be members of our boards, so if you know of anyone who would be a good fit, please recommend them (or even better, put them in touch!)
