Farm & Farm Stand Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Willowsford Farm serves not only Willowsford, but the surrounding community. Non-residents are welcome to shop online, stop by the Farm Stand, and participate in many of our programs and events.

Any resident specific offerings will be indicated as such.

The Willowsford Farm Newsletter is the primary way we distribute information about our CSA, Online Farm Store offerings, upcoming programing and important reminders.

When you made your first purchase on the Online Farm Store, you were added to our email list. If you have previously unsubscribed from the Farm Newsletter or Conservancy Newsletter, you will need to manually re-subscribe, through the link here.

If you are unsure of your subscription status, or having trouble seeing our emails, please email farm@willowsfordfarm.com to have a staff member assist you.

Willowsford Farm is certified organic through CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers)! While all produce grown on the Farm is certified organic, not all products available for sale and/or in the Farmer’s Choice share are organic. If we bring in any vegetables from one of our partner farms, we prioritize organic but cannot guarantee based on the availability of our partners. We partner with Beechwood Orchard for fruit, who uses Integrated Pest Management strategies and other farms to supplement what we offer on the Online Farm Store. In addition, some of our add-on products are not certified organic.

The Online Farm Store will clearly indicated in the name of the item if it is organic or not. If you have a question about a specific produce, please email us at farm@willowsfordfarm.com.

CSA Frequently Asked Questions

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. You support your Agrihood while ensuring guaranteed access to the freshest, healthiest ingredients and products. The Willowsford Farm CSA connects individuals with the Farm in a mutually supportive relationship. By signing up for the CSA you are indicating to the Farm team that you support them, and it ensures there is enough Farm fresh food, planted just for you.

A traditional CSA is a weekly or biweekly box of produce that functions similar to a subscription. Willowsford Farm offers several CSA options to fit your lifestyle and needs. Visit our CSA shares page to explore our different CSA offerings to find what works best for you!

Willowsford Farm offers CSA options to fit every lifestyle. We offer more traditional models (like our Farmers Choice) to fully customizable produce boxes. We also offer pasture raised eggs and a flower share in partnership with a local flower Farm. Explore all our options to find the right one for you by visiting our CSA webpage.

In addition to your CSA, each week you can add on extra products like honey, meat, cheese, and more by shopping our Online Farm Store.

Willowsford Farm offers two distinct CSA seasons: Summer and Winter.

The Summer season runs weekly from Mid-May through the end of October. The Summer options include Farmer’s Choice, Eggs, Flowers, and custom shares.

The Winter Runs from November to February. This share is on a bi-weekly schedule with a brief hiatus for the Christmas and New Years holidays. Winter options include Farmers Choice, Eggs, and custom shares.

Between the Winter and Summer share we enter a period we refer to as “the Off Season”. During the Off Season we offer a limited number of egg shares and a la carte ordering based on availability.

Based on the traditional CSA model, the Farmer’s Choice share contents are curated by the Farm team each week to include a variety of fresh, premium produce and fruits for you to enjoy. This share is a “set it and forget it”, you won’t need to log on and add items to your cart (unless you want to) but you also will not be able to adjust the contents.

The Farmers Choice is great for people who enjoy trying new foods and are looking for a culinary adventure. The most successful Farmer’s Choice subscribers incorporate a soup or stir-fry into their meal plan, using any remaining vegetables to whip up a hearty and healthy meal.

Our Custom share option gives you full control over what’s in your box. You will log on to our Online Farm Store each week and build your order from the ground up. You are not required to order every week and there is no order minimum.

To indicate your intent to participate as as a Custom CSA member, there is a $300 block of credits that can be purchased through the Online Farm Store. While you will not be required to purchase credits, doing so helps us have a clearer picture of what the next growing season will look like, so that we can create a successful farm plan for the year. At this time, credits can not be used at any of our Farm Stand locations and can only be used when purchasing through the Online Farm Store.

Credits do not expire for 5 years. Think of them as a gift card that you can only use on the Online Farm Store. Credits can be used to purchase anything, which includes produce, fruit, meat bundles, and partner products. You can also use Credits to purchase future subscriptions!

We encourage you to have a friend or neighbor pick up your share! They can visit the designated pick up location for your order and tell your name to our CSA Host Volunteers.

If you know in advance you will be unable to pick up your order (traveling, out of town, scheduling changes, etc.) please email us at farm@willowsfordfarm.com to preemptively adjust your order to a new date and time. Adjustment requests prior to Wednesday before your pick up can usually be accommodated. Any requests submitted after Wednesday and during the fulfillment cycle will be handled on a case by case basis and cannot be guaranteed.

If you miss your scheduled pick up, we will hold unclaimed shares until Wednesday before the next fulfillment. You must reach out to schedule an alternate pick up time by emailing farm@willowsfordfarm.com. Anything not claimed is donated to Dulles South Food Pantry on Wednesday morning. This includes all share types including Eggs, Farmers Choice, Custom orders, and Flowers.

When signing up for your CSA share or placing an order, you can select pick up at the Willowsford Boat House or Farm Stand in The Grange. Additional drop sites may be available depending on the time of year. All available drop sites will be listed on the Online Farm Store when you place your order.

Willowsford Farm includes Hiatus Weeks during the Summer and Winter seasons. These are weeks where there is no regular CSA pickup/delivery and the Farm Stands are closed. The Hiatus Weeks are built into the schedules around certain federal holidays to allow the Farm Staff an opportunity for rest, maintenance and harvesting.

Summer Season Hiatus Weeks

  • Week of Fourth of July
  • Week of Labor Day (September)

Winter Hiatus Weeks

  • Week of Christmas
  • Week of New Years

The Online Farm Store will not be open the week preceding the hiatus weeks, you will receive information about the hiatus weeks and how this will impact your fulfillment once the season begins. If you are a Summer Every Other Week member, you will have an additional hiatus week based on your A or B grouping. Reminders about the Hiatus Weeks will be sent to you periodically throughout the season via email.

If you choose one of our Every Other Week options, you will have 11 fulfillments instead of 22. To balance the workload evenly, Every Other Week members will be grouped into A and B blocks. You will receive an email in May before the Summer season begins with your assigned group as well as your fulfillment dates for the Summer season.

To ensure that you receive your 11 fulfillments, each group will have one additional hiatus week that is directly after the Fourth of July or Labor Day holiday. You will receive an additional email notice alerting you to the extra week off before it occurs.

We know that the Every Other Week groupings can be confusing, and we are happy to help walk you through this process. Please email farm@willowsfordfarm.com with any questions.

To streamline the purchasing and discount experience for the Eat in Season share, we have bundled the Summer and Winter Farmer’s Choice shares together. When you initially sign up, you can select your fulfillment option for the Summer season. In October, you will receive communications regarding your Winter fulfillment option.
At this time, Barn2Door is working to improve their customer interface for viewing recent purchases and active subscriptions. Please reach out to us at farm@willowsfordfarm.com and a staff member can assist you with your Barn2Door account.

Please reach out to us via email (farm@willowsfordfarm.com) before reaching out to the Barn2Door support team. Most problems can be solved by a Farm Staff member relatively quickly while Barn2Door support can have long turn around times.

Barn2Door support does not handle travel and adjustment requests, refunds, and general orders processing. If an issue cannot be solved by our staff, we will work with Barn2Door on your behalf!
