Willowsford Invasive Removal Work Session

Interested in conservation, invasive species management, or spending time outdoors? Join the Willowsford Conservancy, in partnership with Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA), for a series of Invasive Removal Work Sessions this September to help improve the Conservancy’s natural areas.
Volunteer activities may include:
- identifying and documenting invasive plants
- treating Tree of Heaven and other invasive plants using Hack-and-Squirt, Drill and Pour, or Cut-Stump methods
- hand pulling invasive plants and vines
- measuring, tagging, and documenting treated plants for future monitoring
No experience is necessary — each session will begin with instruction on identifying target species, primarily focusing on Tree of Heaven or Autumn Olive, and safely using the methods planned for that location.
Herbicide Treatment: Adult volunteers may choose to participate in targeted herbicide treatments. The Conservancy will provide instruction, hand tools, herbicide, application equipment, and required PPE (safety glasses and gloves). You do not have to handle herbicides to participate — there are plenty of other ways to help!
Sign up for one Friday or join us every Friday. You do not need to attend the entire series.
FRIDAY, SEPT 18 – We will meet at the Swart Family Homestead Park
(Located across from 40992 Blossom Glade Drive, Aldie, VA 20105)
Volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing, and bring water. Session may be canceled in the case of inclement weather.
