SUMMARY:Volunteer Session: Native Seed Collection
DESCRIPTION:Fall is here and that means many of our native grasses are going to seed and we need your help to collect it! As part of this activity\, you’ll learn how to ID several different species of native grasses and how to properly collect and store their seeds. Seed collection is easy and can be a relaxing way to spend some time enjoying the outdoors. The seeds we collect as part of this event will be used for further grassland restoration throughout Willowsford. \nThings to know: \n\nThis activity will take place in The Grant. We’ll be collecting seed in a small meadow on the corner of Silver Linden Pl. and Everfield Drive. We recommend parking along Silver Linden Pl.\nBe sure to dress appropriately for the outdoors. We strongly suggest wearing close-toed shoes and long pants as we will be walking through some pretty tall and dense grass.\nThis event is recommended for ages 8+. Volunteers under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.\nWe will be happy to sign off on volunteer hours for any students who join us for this volunteer session! \n\nPlease scroll down to RSVP and let us know to expect you. As part of this activity\, you’ll learn how to ID several different species of native grasses and how to properly collect and store their seeds. The seeds we collect as part of this event will be used for further grassland restoration throughout Willowsford. \nThings to know: \n\nThis volunteer activity is limited to 10 people to reduce heavy foot traffic throughout sensitive restoration areas. Be sure to RSVP below to save your spot!\nBe sure to dress appropriately for the outdoors. We strongly suggest wearing close-toed shoes and long pants as we will be walking through some pretty tall and dense grass. You may also want to familiarize yourself with tick safety. We will be collecting seed in an open meadow so prepare to be in direct sun and be sure to bring water to stay hydrated.\nIn case of rain this event will be rescheduled.\nChildren are welcome. This event is recommended for ages 8+.\nWe will meet in the parking area for Grant Family Campground then take a 5 minute walk to our seed collection site.\n\nPlease scroll down to RSVP.
