Stir Fried Cabbage with Sesame and Ginger

Stir frying is quick and versatile. Try substituting kale or chard for the cabbage. Serves 4.


2 teaspoons vegetable oil
4 cups sliced (into thin ribbons or chiffonade) cabbage leaves
4 garlic scapes
2 teaspoons peeled, finely grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional
4 spring onions, chopped
2 teaspoons sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Pour the oil down the side of the pan and swirl around. Add the cabbage and garlic scapes and cook, tossing frequently for 4 to 6 minutes until the cabbage is crisp-tender.
  2. Add the ginger and sesame seeds. Cook for 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. Add the spring onions, sesame oil, salt and pepper and toss to combine.
  4. Transfer to a platter.  Arrange the garlic scapes on top.
