Greek Honey-Nut Cake

Our mild flavored honey from Willowsford Farm is delicious with the meaty walnut and bright orange flavors in this cake. The honey syrup really makes this cake spectacular and keeps it super moist for days. Serves 12.

For the Cake


1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup butter (1 ½ sticks)
3/4 cup white sugar
3 eggs
zest of 1 orange
1/4 cup milk
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
1 recipe Honey Syrup

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch square pan with nonstick spray and line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
  3. In an electric mixing bowl fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Add the orange zest.
  4. Stir in half of the flour mixture, then the milk, and then the remaining flour mixture mixing just until incorporated. Stir in walnuts.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for 15 minutes, then with the cake in the cake pan, cut into diamond shapes.
  6. Pour Honey Syrup over the cake. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Honey Syrup


1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  1. In a small saucepan, combine honey, sugar and water. Bring to a simmer and cook 5 minutes. Stir in the orange and lemon juices and cook for 2 more minutes or until the mixture is syrupy.
