Last Share Pick-ups – This Week and Next Tuesday

This week as usual, next week all shares for pick-up are on Tuesday, 11/26 from 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM.  Please note the extended hours at the Farm Stand.  Boat House shares will be at the Boat House.  We know this will be breaking our usual routines, don’t forget!  Please let us know if you plan to be away and will not be picking up your final share.

Next Two Weeks in Your Shares

Here we are, we're deep into November and Thanksgiving is just next week away.  We’re going to give you the harvest and Farm Stand list for this week and next week, as most of our produce should keep well heading into Thanksgiving.  Also in time for the holidays, some non-perishables: our own tomato sauce and our own black beans.

Sign up for 2014: Returning Member Registration Open Very Soon

We are offering several new share options for 2014, below.  We hope you like them, and please let us know if you have any questions.  We’ve tried to keep things as straightforward as possible, to give you the most flexibility and us the most consistency in making available our favorite foods.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Returning member registration will be open for three weeks before opening to residents.  We’ll be growing again in 2014 and expect to accommodate all!
  • CSA season is mid-May – November, 27 shares.
  • Thursday pick-up option at the farm stand, New.  Thursday pick-ups will be “market style”, giving you a little more flexibility in what you take home, less the convenience of a pre-packed share.

CSA Options for 2014:

  • Veggies…
  • Eggs…
  • Flowers…
  • Bread…
  • Kombucha…
  • Milk…
  • Chicken…
  • Meat.

We also recognize that CSA is not for everyone, and for your support and adventure this year would like to thank those of you not planning to return in 2014.  We hope to see you at the Farm Stand and would like to give you a $20 gift certificate to use at the Stand next season.  Please feel comfortable letting us know if this is you!

This week at the Farm Stand: New Asbury Farm Lamb

Bill and Joan will be at the Farm Stand Saturday, here to restock you with Sage Sausage and Ground Lamb, Rib and Loin Chops, Shanks and Mutton Stew meat.  And special roasts for the holidays – Legs and Half Legs, Rib Racks and Loin Roasts.  Sage Sausage for holiday breakfasts all weekend, Roasts and Chops with dinner… you will be happy!

Black Beans

Mmm, something about good beans.  We grew a really tasty variety this year, Midnight Black Turtle.  It’s great for spicy soups, stews, and refrying.  Bonnie made a great point that a good quality bean will be much creamier in texture and fuller in taste.  She also notes they can expand more than store-bought beans, even 3-4 times as much.  We have them in pint jars, about a pound to jar, with larger amounts available too, (just let us know).  Try them – soak them first or use a pressure cooker.  I’m planning to make them with quesadillas and burritos with my nephews (again).

Remember to keep an eye out for sign-up information for the 2014 CSA season.  Coming soon!

Be great,

Mike
