Hello CSA Members,
Two CSA pickups left – regular times this week and Tuesday, 11/20 from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Our last CSA pickup will be on Tuesday, November 20th, just before Thanksgiving. We will have extended hours for those of you coming home from work. We’ll be here from 3:30 – 7:30 pm on Tuesday. If you cannot make it and would like your share, please let us know in advance. We will be making a Thanksgiving donation to the Loudoun Interfaith Food Bank early Wednesday morning and will include your share if we don’t hear from you.

Lamb: From New Asbury Farm, Also Available at the Farm Stand on Saturday and Tuesday
CSA members Bill and Joan Baker of New Asbury Farm, just two miles north off Evergreen Mills Road, will also be here on Saturday and Tuesday with lamb to sample and to purchase. In addition to raising sheep nearby, Bill and Joan have come to define the word “neighbor” to us at the Farm for the last year and a half. Bill did much of the initial ground preparation at the farm before I came on last summer, and has been generous with his time, tractor, and hay wagon. Bill has shared more than the time spent seeding or plowing, though; there are all the small things, too, that you don’t know when you come to a new place: a connection with a local welder, where to rent a seed drill, the number of someone who has good hay for sale, and just a friendly visit to lend perspective. Bill and Joan have put the “community” in Community Supported Agriculture. Please read their note below and try some of their lamb this weekend.
Dear Fellow Willowsford CSA Members,
We are delighted to introduce Willowsford CSA members to our sweet and mild local lamb, raised naturally on pasture with no growth hormones or antibiotics. We will have a variety of cuts to choose from plus recipes and suggestions on how to cook the lamb—chops, steaks, and sausages for the grill or frying pan, roasts for the oven, and pot roasts and shanks to simmer or stew.
Here is an email we received on Thursday from a DC customer ordering a Half Lamb:
“We sure do miss you at the Bloomingdale farmers’ market. And, I’ve got to say, we’ve tried half a dozen other lamb producers, and none come close. Your meat simply tastes the best.”
We will be grilling Lamb Sage Sausage and giving out samples. Please try some on Saturday and come back for more on the 20th!
Bill and Joan Baker
