I’m excited to write my first note from the field as the incoming Farm Manager here at Willowsford Farm. For those of you who did not see Anya’s introduction last week, my name is Collin Thompson, and I am starting my second week at the Farm. I recently made the long haul from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Virginia with all my possessions, a couple of dogs, and a tractor. Suffice it to say I am glad to have that journey behind me and have now started to acquaint myself with the operations at Willowsford Farm.
I have plenty to learn about this place, but it is a good time to step into the role. Things are slowly winding down as we put fields to bed for the winter, haul in fall harvests, and prepare for our winter offerings. Speaking of, I want to encourage you to sign up for our Winter CSA this year, which will include ten weeks of produce, as well as egg, meat, and dairy options. It is a great way to continue eating locally as we transition to the back half of the calendar. Produce shares will include portions of this fall’s harvest, as well as fresh greens from our high tunnels, and some tasty preparations from Willowsford Kitchen. The eggs will come straight from the Willowsford coops and the pork from Willowsford pastures. Additional meat and dairy will come from our trusted local partners, rounding out what should support a winter of delicious, locally sourced meals.
I look forward to forward to meeting you in the coming months. As always, thank you for your support!
