Lamb Tasting, and a New Idea

I wish I could do a happy dance and type this at the same time, because I am so thrilled to tell you that Bill and Joan of New Asbury Farm will be here this Saturday, September 22, doing a lamb tasting at the Farm Stand! This event is weather dependent, but right now the forecast is lookin’ good. New Asbury is right down Evergreen Mills Rd in Leesburg, where they raise their White Dorper sheep on rotating pastures, keeping them healthy without the need for antibiotics. We’re so grateful for producers like Bill and Joan that add variety to our meat freezers while committing to and promoting the same healthy, humane standards we adhere to for our own Willowsford Farm livestock.

Although we’re highlighting lamb this week, we’re still accepting bulk pork orders (speaking of variety in the freezer… yum). Because of all the great feedback and customer demand, we’re adding one more option. Our next batch of hogs will be processed September 26, which gives us a unique opportunity to allow our farm-ily to reserve them by the half or whole hog and tailor the butcher’s cut sheet exactly to your family’s preferences. If your favorite winter recipes are filled with sausage, you love a good pork chop on cold night, and your go-to football potluck item is a slow cooker full of pulled pork, this bulk opportunity was made for you. Because you can choose exactly your flavors of sausage, cured meats, and numbers/sizes of prime cuts, there are too many options for us to list here. We’ll invoice you $3.75/LB for the hang weight of the hog, plus the processing costs on your cut sheet from the butcher, transport it to back Willowsford, and store it safely in our freezer for you to pick up. If you’re interested but haven’t tried this before, reach out and let us walk you through the cut sheet options and what to expect from butcher costs. Because we’ll be processing these hogs to your exact preferences, we will be taking a $100 non-refundable deposit on each order, with the balance due at pick-up. We’re pretty excited about this because buying by the half/whole hog is how some of us on the farm with families keep our own freezers full, so we’re hoping it’s exciting for you, too, and that we can offer the same opportunity in the future with a little more time to sign up.
