SUMMARY:Volunteer Session: Native Seed Collection
DESCRIPTION:Fall is here and that means many of our native grasses are going to seed and we need your help to collect it! As part of this activity\, you’ll learn how to ID several different species of native grasses and how to properly collect and store their seeds. Seed collection is easy and can be a relaxing way to spend some time enjoying the outdoors. The seeds we collect as part of this event will be used for further grassland restoration throughout Willowsford. \nThings to know: \n\nThis activity will take place in The Grant. We’ll be collecting seed in a small meadow on the corner of Silver Linden Pl. and Everfield Drive. We recommend parking along Silver Linden Pl.\nBe sure to dress appropriately for the outdoors. We strongly suggest wearing close-toed shoes and long pants as we will be walking through some pretty tall and dense grass.\nThis event is recommended for ages 8+. Volunteers under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.\nWe will be happy to sign off on volunteer hours for any students who join us for this volunteer session! \n\nPlease scroll down to RSVP and let us know to expect you. SUMMARY:Meet the Willowsford Farm Chickens!
DESCRIPTION:Come and hear one of our farmers share how our flock of 500 pasture-raised chickens helps improve our soil health and our future production yields. You will learn about what we feed them and how we move them around our Farm. Then\, we will don painter booties to protect our shoes as we head into the coop to visit the hens. We will have the chance to touch a chicken and also\, adventurous visitors can try to pick up a chicken. We will then collect the eggs that have been laid that morning and head to our egg washing room to see how we clean our eggs. Every household will leave with a dozen eggs to try at home. \nThe event will be geared towards elementary and middle school aged students\, especially children who are curious about farm livestock and comfortable with loud bird noises and being near hens. We ask that all children be accompanied by an adult. Adults don’t have to enter the coop if they don’t want to! We will some beverages available for adults and also have staff available to chat about the Farm and our work. \nAttendees will meet up at the Farm packing shed by driving up the gravel road to the left of the Farm Stand. \nScroll down to buy your ticket. Tickets are required for all children attending\, accompanying parents or guardians do not require a ticket.

Willowsford resident Jennifer of JKS Yoga will take you through a series of poses to help you take in the sights and sounds of doing yoga at the Farm Stand. We will meet to the left of the Farm Stand in the big lawn. Please bring your own mat and water bottle. All levels are welcome! \nEach class is $10\, scroll down to buy your ticket! \nThis will be a monthly series running from June through October\, sign up for all dates and get a one class free ($10 discount) by emailing us at info@willowsfordconservancy.org. \nEveryone who signs up will be asked to complete a waiver. We will have a list on hand of everyone who completed a waiver at one of the earlier classes (you will not need to sign again). \nWe ask that you park across the street from the Farm Stand at the Sycamore House parking lot and then walk over so that we can ensure there is enough parking for those visiting the Farm Stand for our weekly market. DESCRIPTION:Join the Conservancy on this school day off for some crafting! On this day we’ll make hanging mobiles with birds using cardboard paper towel and toilet paper rolls. We’ll focus on bird species found in our area so after you hang your mobile\, you can look for these birds out your window. \n\nWe’ve been collecting rolls for you\, but if you have extras\, bring them!\nWe’ll be using acrylic paint so be sure to wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting a little paint on.\nThis craft is best suited for ages 6-9.\nParents are welcome to attend with their kids or drop them off. If dropped off\, parents must fill out a drop off form and pick up their children promptly at 11:30.\n\nRSVP below\, spaces are limited!

SUMMARY:Meet the Willowsford Farm Chickens!
DESCRIPTION:Come and hear one of our farmers share how our flock of 500 pasture-raised chickens helps improve our soil health and our future production yields. You will learn about what we feed them and how we move them around our Farm. Then\, we will don painter booties to protect our shoes as we head into the coop to visit the hens. We will have the chance to touch a chicken and also\, adventurous visitors can try to pick up a chicken. We will then collect the eggs that have been laid that morning and head to our egg washing room to see how we clean our eggs. Every household will leave with a dozen eggs to try at home. \nThe event will be geared towards elementary and middle school aged students\, especially children who are curious about farm livestock and comfortable with loud bird noises and being near hens. We ask that all children be accompanied by an adult. Adults don’t have to enter the coop if they don’t want to! We will some beverages available for adults and also have staff available to chat about the Farm and our work. \nAttendees will meet up at the Farm packing shed by driving up the gravel road to the left of the Farm Stand. \nScroll down to buy your ticket. Tickets are required for all children attending\, accompanying parents or guardians do not require a ticket.
