DESCRIPTION:Willowsford Conservancy & Farm is partnering with Warrior Kids Yoga to host two kid-friendly family sessions of yoga at the Farm Stand on October 2nd!  \nThe first session geared towards families with preschoolers (ages 2-5 with a grown up) will take place from 5:30-6:00PM. For this pumpkin themed session\, we’ll stretch like scarecrows\, sway like trees in the wind\, and giggle through pumpkin-inspired poses that welcome fall with open arms. \nThe second session will start at 6:15PM and focused towards K-6 graders (and their grown ups) where we’ll leap like foxes through leaf piles\, balance like pumpkins on a fence\, and flow like the autumn wind across the mat. Warrior Kids Yoga helps little yogis stay healthy\, cope with stress and cultivate their inner strength both on and off the mat. SUMMARY:Meet the Willowsford Farm Chickens!
DESCRIPTION:Come and hear one of our farmers share how our flock of 500 pasture-raised chickens helps improve our soil health and our future production yields. You will learn about what we feed them and how we move them around our Farm. Then\, we will don painter booties to protect our shoes as we head into the coop to visit the hens. We will have the chance to touch a chicken and also\, adventurous visitors can try to pick up a chicken. We will then collect the eggs that have been laid that morning and head to our egg washing room to see how we clean our eggs. Every household will leave with a dozen eggs to try at home. \nThe event will be geared towards elementary and middle school aged students\, especially children who are curious about farm livestock and comfortable with loud bird noises and being near hens. We ask that all children be accompanied by an adult. Adults don’t have to enter the coop if they don’t want to! We will some beverages available for adults and also have staff available to chat about the Farm and our work. \nAttendees will meet up at the Farm packing shed by driving up the gravel road to the left of the Farm Stand. \nScroll down to buy your ticket. Tickets are required for all children attending\, accompanying parents or guardians do not require a ticket. \nThe program will begin promptly at 10am\, we encourage you to arrive 10 minutes early to have time to wash your hands and get situated before we head over to the chicken coop. When visiting the Farm\, you will see agriculture machinery and equipment. For your safety and the safety of our staff\, do not touch or approach any equipment unless directed by a staff member. This includes but is not limited to\, tractors\, ATVs\, washing and sanitation equipment\, pallets and pallet jacks\, harvest and maintenance tools\, and other items of a similar nature. We understand that visiting the Farm is very exciting for kids\, and their safety is our top priority. We will thoroughly cover all health and safety guidelines for the program at the start of the session. \nTickets are nonrefundable within three days of the scheduled event. However\, if you’re unable to attend\, we’re happy to transfer your ticket to a future session\, pending availability. If you are sick or feeling generally unwell\, for the health and safety of the group\, do not attend the session. Please err on the side of caution and reach out to have your ticket transferred instead.

DESCRIPTION:**Update 10/2/2025: This program has been cancelled. Stay tuned for future sessions of this event!**\nCome and hear one of our farmers share how our flock of 500 pasture-raised chickens helps improve our soil health and our future production yields. You will learn about what we feed them and how we move them around our Farm. Then\, we will don painter booties to protect our shoes as we head into the coop to visit the hens. We will have the chance to touch a chicken and also\, adventurous visitors can try to pick up a chicken. We will then collect the eggs that have been laid that morning and head to our egg washing room to see how we clean our eggs. Every household will leave with a dozen eggs to try at home. \nThe event will be geared towards elementary and middle school aged students\, especially children who are curious about farm livestock and comfortable with loud bird noises and being near hens. We ask that all children be accompanied by an adult. Adults don’t have to enter the coop if they don’t want to! We will some beverages available for adults and also have staff available to chat about the Farm and our work. \nAttendees will meet up at the Farm packing shed by driving up the gravel road to the left of the Farm Stand. \nScroll down to buy your ticket. Tickets are required for all children attending\, accompanying parents or guardians do not require a ticket. \nThe program will begin promptly at 10am\, we encourage you to arrive 10 minutes early to have time to wash your hands and get situated before we head over to the chicken coop. When visiting the Farm\, you will see agriculture machinery and equipment. For your safety and the safety of our staff\, do not touch or approach any equipment unless directed by a staff member. This includes but is not limited to\, tractors\, ATVs\, washing and sanitation equipment\, pallets and pallet jacks\, harvest and maintenance tools\, and other items of a similar nature. We understand that visiting the Farm is very exciting for kids\, and their safety is our top priority. We will thoroughly cover all health and safety guidelines for the program at the start of the session. \nTickets are nonrefundable within three days of the scheduled event. However\, if you’re unable to attend\, we’re happy to transfer your ticket to a future session\, pending availability. If you are sick or feeling generally unwell\, for the health and safety of the group\, do not attend the session. Please err on the side of caution and reach out to have your ticket transferred instead.

SUMMARY:Invasive Plant Removal Training
DESCRIPTION:Join the Willowsford Conservancy\, in partnership with Wetlands Studies and Solutions\, Inc (WSSI) and the Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA) for an invasive plant removal training. Experts from WSSI\, a local environmental consultancy with expertise on invasive plant removal\, will lead the training showing you how to tackle Tree of Heaven with the hack and squirt method. While this technique most typically is used from June to September\, we have heard of several communities having success well into October. The training will also include lopping various invasive vines that are suffocating native trees in the area. Finally\, we will hand pull invasive plants like stiltgrass and others. \nWho can Attend? \nOpen to all ages\, but recommended for 10 and older. Only 18+ volunteers can work with herbicides. Younger volunteers can work with parents or guardians on lopping or hand pulling. This event is open to Willowsford residents and the general public. \nAll participants must sign our volunteer waiver which can be electronically signed here or completed on site. For attendees under the age of 18\, a parent or guardian must sign it. \nLOCATION:\nWe’ll be meeting at the Swart Family Homestead Park located across from 40992 Blossom Glade Drive\, Aldie\, VA 20105. We will have signage to help direct you. Please park on Blossom Glade Drive or surrounding streets. After a brief training\, we will head into the woods behind the park on Conservancy Open Space. \nWHAT TO BRING:\nHand pruners\, loppers\, and hatchets if you have them (but not required). Bring a water bottle and work gloves. If you come just to observe\, the equipment is not necessary. \nWHAT TO WEAR:\nDress for the weather. Wear closed-toe shoes\, long sleeves and long pants since we will be in naturalized open space. Consider wearing a hat and bringing gloves and safety glasses\, if you have them. \nNOTE: Some of the participants will be working with herbicides. Join us for a creative afternoon at the Willowsford Boat House\, filled with nature-themed\, autumn crafts and Halloween-inspired fun. Participants will rotate through a variety of activities\, including:  \n\nFall Leaf Jar Lights: Decorate a glass jar with colorful fall leaves and add a safe\, flickering LED candle inside\nMini Pumpkin Painting: Create your own one-of-a-kind mini pumpkin to take home.\nTrick-or-Treat Tote Decorating: Use fabric paint to design a reusable canvas bag\, perfect for Halloween night or everyday use. \nNature Color Walk: Take a short group walk around Willow Lake to match paint chip colors with natural finds outdoors.\n\nAll materials are provided\, and no experience is necessary. This is a great opportunity for kids to get creative\, connect with neighbors\, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon away from the classroom.  \nWhen: Monday\, October 20th\, from 1pm to 4pm  \nWhere:  Willowsford Boat House\, 41025 Willowsford Lane\, Aldie\, VA \nAges: 6-12 \nBe sure to have your child wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty as several of our crafts include paint! DESCRIPTION:Join the Farm Team for a a couple days of harvesting! On November 3rd and 4th we’ll focus on harvesting root vegetables like carrots and radishes. Sign up below for our morning or afternoon harvesting sessions. These are a days that LCPS is off school and a great way to get the kids outside and connect with the Farm. All ages are welcome but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhen: Monday November 3rd & Tuesday November 4th \nMorning Session: 9:30AM to 12:00PM \nAfternoon Session: 1:30PM to 3:30PM \nWhat to wear: Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (you will get dirty)\, close-toed shoes\, and long pants. Bring gloves if you have them! \nWhere: Willowsford Farm located at 23595 Founders Drive\, Ashburn\, VA.
