SUMMARY:Tree Planting for Earth Week
DESCRIPTION:Join the Conservancy in kicking off Earth Week by planting over 500 trees! We are searching for volunteers to help us plant native trees in a meadow behind Lotus Pond Place in The Greens. The goal of this planting is to create a wildlife corridor for animals moving through Conservancy open space\, improve air quality\, and establish a buffer between Lotus Pond Place and the proposed county park. \nThe Conservancy is a proud partner of the Arbor Day Foundation for this effort. ADF is a nonprofit that funds tree planting projects nationwide where local companies fund efforts to have an environmental impact in their local area. This community tree planting is made possible by a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and Amazon. \nCome and plant trees with us and make a difference. We will provide instruction\, all the necessary materials\, as well as snacks and lunch. We are looking for volunteers of all ages\, from all Villages to join Amazon volunteers and Conservancy staff. This is a day when LCPS is closed for Spring Break (and kids are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians)\, so if you are in town or work from home\, we would love to have you join us! \nWhy Participate? \n\nPlant saplings to make a difference in your community\nLearn about the park’s impact on Willowsford\nImprove environmental outcomes since trees produce oxygen\, create ecosystems for wildlife\, and mitigate the impacts of climate change\nMeet your neighbors and get to know Conservancy staff\nGreat way for young students to engage in volunteerism or for high school students to earn volunteer hours\nEnjoy snacks and lunch while you participate\n\nPlease RSVP below so we have a head count for lunch (no need to register kids age 4 or below)

SUMMARY:Bluebird Monitor Guided Training
DESCRIPTION:** Update 4/10/25: This training has been rescheduled to start at 2pm instead of 10am due to rainy weather. All registered participants will be emailed with the change. If you have questions\, email us at info@WillowsfordConservancy.org** \nInterested in becoming a bluebird monitor? Join our staff for a guided walk along our bluebird monitoring trail in The Grove. Learn how to inspect boxes\, collect\, and report data to contribute to citizen science. Blue bird monitoring is an easy\, flexible\, and rewarding volunteer opportunity that is great for individuals\, families\, or high school students seeking volunteer hours. Space is limited so register below. \nCan’t make this event but still interested in becoming a monitor? Email us at info@WillowsfordConservancy.org! We’ll be happy to set up a time for individual training and answer any questions you have. \nWhy monitor bluebird boxes?\nMonitoring bluebird boxes allows conservationists\, bird enthusiasts\, and researchers to gather valuable data on nesting success and population health of bluebirds. Bluebirds are cavity nesters\, however they aren’t the only one and monitoring boxes allows us to gain insight on the predators and competitors that bluebirds are facing at their nests. Bluebirds are tolerant of human presence and proper monitoring does not disrupt the nest. Beyond helping with science\, it is a rewarding and fulfilling way to connect with nature!

SUMMARY:Scrape for the Grape
DESCRIPTION:The Willowsford Conservancy and HOA are members of the Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA) and are joining forces to participate in LIRA’s second annual Scrape for the Grape. LIRA has partnered with Visit Loudoun\, the Loudoun Wineries and Winegrowers Association\, and the Virginia Cooperative Extension and sponsor Amazon Web Services to bring this volunteer event to multiple sites all over the county on two different dates. Willowsford will participate on Saturday\, March 29\, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Bull Run Overlook Trailhead and Obstacle Course in The Greens. \nThe invasive spotted lanternfly (SLF) was seen all over Willowsford last summer attracted to the also invasive Tree of Heaven\, where it typically lays its eggs. Once in an area\, SLF move on to grape vines and fruit trees\, so this event is critical to help reduce the pressure from spotted lanternflies here in our community\, our Farm\, and also on rural Loudoun’s vineyards and orchards. \nWhy Participate? \n\nBe part of one of Loudoun’s most popular volunteer events in 2025 – 1\,000 volunteers!\nCreate awareness of invasive species while helping our rural economy\nFamily friendly and fun\, while getting educated about the SLF!\nVolunteers receive commemorative t-shirts\, scrapers and bandanas\n20 wineries participating in a “weekend of gratitude”\, offering special promotions for volunteers\nMom’s Apple Pie is providing special SLF shaped cookies for the kids\nA great way for high school students or scouts to get volunteer hours\n\nClick to learn more about the event and REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER \n(Scroll to bottom of page and click on March 29 and then select Willowsford as the location)\nIf you are unable to participate on March 29\, LIRA is holding a second Scrape on April 12 with many locations across the county.

SUMMARY:Bluebird Monitor Guided Training
DESCRIPTION:Interested in becoming a bluebird monitor? Join our staff for a guided walk along our newest bluebird monitoring trail in The Greens.
