All About

Cherry Tomatoes
Common Varieties

There are so many different varieties of the juicy, sun-drenched miniature tomato to choose from. Some popular varieties include: Sun Gold, Sweet 100, Super Sweet 100, Currant and my newest favorite, Bumble Bee tomatoes.

What to Look For

Cherry tomatoes should be plump and heavy for their size. Color and shape will vary according to the variety. Follow your nose. Cherry tomatoes that smell good will taste good.

Easy Storage and Preparation

Store your tomatoes at room temperature.  The coldness of the refrigerator saps their flavor and gives them a mealy texture. It’s best to use ripe tomatoes within a few days.

Best Uses

Cherry tomatoes are wonderful eaten by the handful. Keep a bowl of ripe tomatoes on the kitchen counter for easy, sweet snacking. At your next cookout, grill cherry tomatoes in a tin foil pouch with a touch of olive oil and salt. Serve over goat cheese with crackers for a sensational summer appetizer.
